Final Portfolio: Location Risk Analysis

Location 1: E11 Markaz Rooftop While the rooftop served as a visually compelling backdrop, it turned out to be much smaller than we had anticipated. There would be very limited room for movement of the cast and crew. Most importantly, the area where this rooftop was located was somewhat shady and unsafe. Given the risks, we decided against using this location for the safety of our cast members.  Location 2: Dera Daari  At first, this location seemed like a strong contender for our final choice due to its open and visually appealing setting. We were impressed by the atmosphere and the potential it offered for our music video. However, after speaking with the manager, we learned that the cost for each day would be a minimum of 60,000 -70,000 PKR, which would total over 1 lakh for two days of filming. This budget requirement became a major setback, as it would significantly limit the resources available for other important aspects of the production. Location 3: The Farmhou...

Final Portfolio: Location Scouting

Image
We picked a date to visit 3 to 4 locations that could be used for the music video. After school, I went to Muhjah's house, where we searched for locations around Islamabad. After an hour or so, we visited the places, including Dera Daari, Anabias, and E-11 Markaz Rooftop. Initially, we had decided on using Dera Daari as our filming spot, however, the cost for booking was over our budget, being around Rs.50000 per day. Luckily, Muhjah's friend allowed us to film at his farmhouse in Chak Shehzad, which seems to be a perfect spot for the shoot as well.  Here are some pictures we took of the potential locations. Final Portfolio: Digipak planning

Image
Dua came up with the idea for how the digipak should look after looking for inspiration online. After she shared it with Muhjah and me, we used this reference as a guiding point and decided on the color grading and artwork for our digipak.

Final Portfolio: Social Media Page (Planning & Designing)

Image
When it came to designing and planning our Instagram page rollout for the music video, we decided to take a slightly different route than the conventional approach. While many artists often begin with a series of grid posts to establish the aesthetic, we opted to build anticipation through Instagram Stories first. We kicked things off with two 'Coming Soon' announcements, followed by three carefully crafted teasers, all within the story format. This strategy allowed us to engage directly with our audience in a more dynamic and immediate way, creating a sense of excitement and encouraging interaction. We initially shared this design concept with our WhatsApp group chat, where everyone was on board, allowing us to move forward with the plan. Only after this initial buzz did we transition to our main grid posts and the final 'Music Video Out Now' reveal.  It's interesting to note that even artists like  Billie Eilish  have utilized similar 'Coming Soon' tactics...

Final Portfolio: Cast Analysis

Image
The Protagonist (Teenage Girl):   Consumed by an intense infatuation, she's deeply vulnerable to heartbreak when her affections aren't returned and he has moved on. Her inability to cope triggers a downward spiral, impacting her mental well-being. She becomes fixated on her initial boyfriend who has moved on, rejecting other guys and possibilities like Trevor. The Ex-Boy (Trevor)(Initial Object of Affection):  He's the central figure in the protagonist's emotional turmoil, seemingly unaware or uninvolved in her feelings. He represents a lost ideal and the happiness she associates with him. His relationship with another girl is the catalyst for her heartbreak. The Ex-Boy's New Girlfriend:  Unintentionally the source of the protagonist's pain, she embodies what the protagonist desires but cannot have. Her presence forces the protagonist to confront the reality of the situation. She represents the "lost" object of affection. Daniyal (Heather):  Introduc...

Final Portfolio: Crew and Cast

Final Portfolio: Make-up and Costumes

Image
For the four main actors, we decided on a black dress code to create a cohesive look that connects all the characters. Below are the inspiration photos and the actual versions for each of them: For Muhjah, we opted for a more minimal makeup look, paired with any black dress, as it aligns with the dress code while being significant to the plot Mishmal's makeup should be bold, reflecting her confidence and satisfaction in outshining Muhjah at the gathering. Her choice of a black dress, similar to Muhjah's, symbolizes her triumph in winning over her ex by mirroring Muhjah's style. While both Atlas and Daniyal follow the black dress code, their styles set them apart. Atlas embraces a more formal look, whereas Daniyal opts for a casual, streetwear-inspired outfit. This contrast highlights their differing personalities and social attitudes, emphasizing the distinction in their roles and how they navigate the gathering.

Preliminary task #2: Pre-production (song selection, mood board)

Image
There wasn't much planning required for the song selection as Dua had already come up with the idea of using Maand by Bayaan and Hassan Raheem. The song delves into themes of love, loss, and longing. Its melancholic tones and heartfelt vocals allowed us to create a music video dealing with heartbreak and reminiscence due to the loss of friendship. Here is the mood board for how I envision our MV:
